Project Highlights

Straits was subconsultant to Designworks Architects & Consultants Sdn Bhd for the design of a six-storey office building and multi-storey carpark for the Ampang LRT Station. The Client for the project was Prasarana. Straits provided civil and structural engineering consultancy services as well as construction supervision services for the project. The office building was occupied by Prasarana operations for the Ampang Line while the multi-storey carpark is used by the LRT passengers.

During the Design Stage, Straits produced submission drawings and reports for Development Order (DO), Infrastructure (Road, Drainage, Earthwork) and Building Plan (BP) as well as submissions to the water and sewerage authorities. Straits also produced the design drawings, calculations and reports which were used in the tender stage and coordinated with other disciplines. Bi-weekly project meetings were attended to ensure proper coordination between all disciplines.

Straits participated in coordination meetings and obtained the required permits for the building. In the Tender Stage, Straits participated in the tender interviews and clarifications, produced addendums as required. In Construction Stage, Straits coordinated the C&S drawings and addressed discrepancies based on site conditions and contractor’s requests. Straits provided a full standing supervising Resident Engineer and a COW to address site issues and monitor the contractor’s work.

Due to the strict schedule of the Client, Straits designed an IBS pre-cast structure system for the multi-storey carpark. The system proved effective as it was able to shorten the construction time significantly.
